The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a free program provided to low-income Long Islanders, especially the elderly and disabled, to make their homes more energy efficient. An energy audit is conducted by a building analyst using a variety of tests and tools to determine the most cost-effective means of reducing energy consumption in the dwelling.
The WAP is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and administered through the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal Energy Services Bureau. CDCLI has managed the program for the State of New York since the late 1980s, currently serving over 400 households on an annual basis in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
