Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) is a voluntary program that assists individuals and families who are receiving Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance to secure the resources they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Case Managers meet regularly with participants to establish and review goals. Families are provided with information about scholarships for college and job training programs, budgeting and credit skills, health care services, counseling and an on-line quarterly newsletter with valuable resources & articles called FSS NEWS. These services may help families eliminate barriers to financial stability and increase their self esteem.
During FSS Program participation, as a participant increases his or her earned income and the family’s rent is increased as a result, money is set aside in an “escrow” account. When the participant achieves his or her goals and graduates from the FSS Program, they are provided with the money from this account. Many have expressed the desire to own a home and may use this money to achieve that dream.
