How do I become a CDCLI Housing Choice Voucher landlord?
What are the benefits of becoming a CDCLI Housing Choice Voucher landlord?As a landlord, you will receive two checks for rent every month: a check from the tenant family and a check from the Public Housing Agency (PHA). The tenant is responsible for paying a portion of the rent, depending on their income; the PHA pays the balance. The checks are issued during the last week of the prior month and are usually received by the landlords by the 5th of the month if not sooner. Many landlords report feeling gratified by providing affordable housing for those assisted through the Housing Choice Voucher program.
All landlords sign a contract that they will uphold the rules and regulations for the program as set forth by HUD. Central to these regulations is the requirement that all subsidized units must be safe and decent; each unit is inspected at initial lease-up and then again annually, and more often if warranted to ensure it meets federal housing quality standards. Landlords must make any needed repairs in order for the subsidy to continue.
