Family Self Sufficiency
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program assists individuals and families who are receiving Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance to secure the resources they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Case managers meet regularly with participants, helping them to establish goals. Families are provided with resources including: scholarships to colleges and training programs, budgeting, job training, childcare, health services, and counseling. The services help families eliminate barriers and to increase self-esteem.
As families increase their income, money is set-aside in an escrow account. When they graduate from the FSS program and achieve self-sufficiency, they are provided with the money from the account. Many have expressed the desire to own a home and use the funds to achieve this dream.
