Mainstream Housing Program for Persons with Disabilities Housing Choice Voucher Program Waitlist Open

Community Development Corporation of Long Island serves as the Public Housing Authority (PHA) for the Mainstream Housing Program. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers the Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) in New York State. This program helps to further the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act by helping persons with disabilities live in the most integrated setting. The program also encourages partnerships with health and human service agencies with a demonstrated capacity to coordinate voluntary services and supports to enable individuals to live independently in the community. The landlord will receive part of his/her rent from the tenant, and part from the Mainstream Voucher Program. Non-resident applicants must live in Suffolk County during the first year of the program.

As per federal guidelines, 75% of households admitted to the program will be persons/families with extremely low income. Persons/Families must have annual household incomes no greater than the following limits by family size:

Apply online or print an application and mail it to CDCLI. CDCLI will not have any applications on the premises, please do not visit the office for an application.  Due to the pandemic, we are not allowing visitors at this time.  Applications must be postmarked no later than January 29, 2021, and submitted in writing with all required information completed and legible.



Please complete all items listed on this application. Each application must be accompanied by proof of the applicant’s current address. Completed applications must be sent by regular mail to the post office box (not registered or certified mail) and be in a standard business envelope. Only one application per family will be accepted and a limit of one application per envelope.

Any applications postmarked after January 29, 2021, will not be accepted. Of the total number of applications received, 1000 will be chosen by lottery.

Applications will be randomly selected by lottery and placed on the new Waiting List.  Selected applicants will be notified by March 31, 2021.  Applicants will be contacted for an eligibility interview based on the order of lottery selection.  Applications not chosen in the lottery will be destroyed.  All eligible applicants from outside Suffolk County will be required to reside in Suffolk County during their first year on the program.
